Defeating the Nameless King: A Timing Guide
Introduction: The Delay King
The Nameless King is famous not because he's fast, but because he's slow. He raises his spear. You panic roll. He waits. You finish your roll. Then he hits you. He is designed to punish panic.
Why He's So Difficult
Phase 1: King of the Storm (The Camera Boss)
You fight a dragon on clouds. The floor is invisible depth-less fog. The dragon flies over you. Your camera unlocks. You can't see the lightning text.
Strategy: Do NOT lock onto the rider. Lock onto the Dragon's Head. Stay in front, not underneath.
Phase 2: The Nameless King
Every attack has a roughly 0.5-second delay between the wind-up and the swing. Rhythm: Wind-up -> Wait -> Roll -> Punish.
How Otagon Coaches You Through
Gear Check: Share your loadout. Otagon: "You're wearing heavy armor but have low Lightning absorption. Switch to the Dragonslayer Shield or consume a Yellow Bug Pellet."
Move Reading: "How do I dodge the lightning stake?" Otagon: "When he raises the weapon to the sky, wait for the lightning to actually flash, then roll. It's a visual cue, not an audio one."
Victory Strategy
- Phase 1: Bait the fire breath. Run to the side and attack the head. A few hits will stagger it for a Reposte (critical hit).
- Phase 2: Strafe right. Many of his attacks track poorly if you circle strafe.
- Healing: Only heal when you could have attacked. If you heal during his neutral stance, he will input-read and spear dash you.
Pro Tips
- Lothric Knight Shield: Infuse with Lightning. It provides ~95% Lightning block.
- Dragonslayer Greatshield: Assuming you have the strength, this trivializes the fight. Block everything.
